Virginia Tech vs. Wake Forest Game Preview
Virginia Tech (2-3, 1-0 ACC) faces Wake Forest (2-2, 0-2 ACC) this week in a Saturday home game for the Hokies in Lane Stadium. The Demon Deacons will be eager for a first conference win after losses to NC State and Georgia Tech. The Hokies coming in with a two-game win streak, having secured victories against Wofford and NC State following a head coaching shake-up that saw the departure of Brent Pry, OC Phillip Montgomery serving as interim.
Each coach will be looking to get their season back on track. Montgomery is fighting to turn the season around amid a rough start for the Hokies. Wake Forest HC Jake Dickert will be eager to replicate his prior success with Washington State with a 23-20 overall record.
Virginia Tech and Wake Forest both excel in their defensive play; however, the Hokies will need to adjust the inconsistencies in their offensive production to compete with the aggressive and opportunistic offense of the Demon Deacons.
The Saturday afternoon matchup follows the announcement of $229 million added to the athletic budget over the course of the next four years, putting Virginia Tech on the level of some of the biggest spenders in the ACC.
